Cape York Family Violence Prevention Legal Unit
Lockhart River Community Youth Camp

This initiative aims to support a three-day youth camp addressing domestic violence issues.  The camp aims to give young people 12-25 years a creative environment to discuss domestic and family violence, how it affects the community and how it can be prevented.  It is hoped the camp will raise young participants’ self esteem and leadership skills.

Cultural Learning Program

This initiative will support a cultural learning program for young Indigenous people who experience social disadvantage.  The program will incorporate community activities such as camps, field trips, cultural awareness and skills workshops.  It is hoped that the activities will engage young people experiencing disadvantage, and empower them to make positive healthy choices in their lives.

Northern Territory Skateboarding, Blading, Biking Assoc. Inc
The Premium Great Sk8

The Premium Great Sk8 initiative not only displays the talents of young people through skateboarding and live music performances, it is also an event that is run by youth.  There will be bands, bike heats, skating heats and prizes to be won.  16 young people will travel from Katherine to Darwin to attend the event.

This initiative will develop a sport and recreation program for young people of Numbulwar.  The program aims to create opportunities for young people in the area through development of a range of activities.  The activities include art and film workshops, and the building of a bmx track for young people.

Crocfest Student Organisation Committee
This grant will support 22 young Indigenous students to perform at the Crocfestival in September 2007.  The 22 young students are developing a dance performance for the festival which will be held in Port Augusta.  Participation in the festival is part of their year 12 Community Studies subject, and aims to develop their organisational and leadership skills.

This holiday program has been run by university students from Dubbo and Coonamble.  university students will work with younger children to inspire productivity and encourage them with their studies during the holidays.

Central Desert Eagles Little League Football Trip to Perth
This grant will support the Central Desert Eagles junior boys’ football trip to Perth.  The eight day trip will involve taking 18 boys and 4 adults to Perth for 8 day during July.

Surfing Far North Coast in Brunswick Heads
Surf Awareness Program

This grant will support a surf safety awareness program for Indigenous young people in the region.  The surf safety program will be facilitated by accredited surf life saving coaches, and assisted by young volunteers of Surfing Far North Coast.  The day aims to raise awareness of surf-safety, and promote junior surf development.

Townsville State High School
NAIDOC Debutante Ball

Young students of Townsville High School will develop the first NAIDOC Debutante Ball in September 2007.   It is hoped the ball will be successful and continue in future years as an annual event.  The Debutante Ball aims to celebrate the culture of all Australians.

Aroona Aboriginal Council
The education initiative aims to connect Indigenous youth with their cultural heritage.  The program will consist of a series of camps, with Elders teaching Indigenous cultural traditions.  Participants will gain a solid moral framework and sense of belonging to their cultural roots through music and dance, film making, and bush food and medicine topics.

Contemporary Indigenous Youth Dance
Blue Mountains Aboriginal Culture and Resource Centre
This program is to continue cultural dance & movement workshops for Indigenous young women aged 12-18 years.  The workshops will foster strong peer relationships, and provide the young women with a connection to, and strong sense of pride in their Indigenous background.  Through the workshops the young women will develop a performance for NAIDOC week 2007, celebrating Indigenous culture and people.

Coen Youth Centre
Coen Inspirational Program
This award will go towards the purchase of equipment and furniture for the new Youth Centre in Coen.  The Centre is being set up as a place for young people to go, participate in group activities, and as an aversion to being on the streets.

Mirrimbeena Aboriginal Education Group
The program is for small group of young people will take up the challenge of building relationships with young offenders by providing a broad range of opportunities including a strong mentoring and support system.  The project will also encourage self awareness, leadership, confidence building and self esteem practices.  It will, through music and dance, introduce the young people to enjoy community social interaction and gaining employment.

Time Pod
Shiney Pictures C/- Blackheath Area Neighbourhood Centre
The program ‘Time Pod’ is a media project connecting young Indigenous people to seniors in the community.  The life stories and experiences of selected Indigenous seniors will be shared with young people in a series of group workshops and sessions.  The sessions will combine research skills and hands on video making to form a final edited DVD.

Elders Digital Stories
Speak Out

It is to innovatively deliver Speak Out community’s multimedia training in a culturally appropriate context to homeless and at risk Indigenous youth in Brisbane.  The aim of the workshops is to increase the compute literacy of the participants and also give them the opportunity to reconnect with their traditional culture and community through developing digital stories based on the experiences of the Brisbane Elders.

Youth Introduction to Photography
Tweed Aboriginal Co-operative
The program will introduce the world of photography to the Aboriginal youth of Tweed Heads and surrounding area.  The program aims to develop participants’ awareness of photography, through the teaching of different camera functions and printing processes, and how photography can be a tool for the preservation of culture.

Yirrkala Active Cooking
Yirrkala Dhanbul Community Association Inc
This initiative supports the Yolngu young people of Yirrkala Community in East Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. It is a beach cooking and physically activity program to be run by Yirrkala Sport and Recreation in partnership with Public Health Nutritionist from the Health Department. It is to be run after school and during school holidays. The goal is to provide regular opportunities for Yolngu young people to learn about food preparation and to have a fun experience cooking and being physically active.
