Your Eyes Only 2007

Your Eyes Only is a new funding round in 2007.  Young people aged 12 - 15 years are selected to receive a reward for their nominated organisation, from The Foundation for Young Australians Your Eyes Only funding opportunity.  Young people submit creative entries celebrating their community through their eyes, and will nominate a community organisation working with young people to receive a donation.

Round 2 - September

Thomas Pinday, 13, and group
Warmun Community, WA
Ngalangangdum School
Thomas and the group of young people submitted a creative DVD showing twelve young people celebrating the Warmun community.  The boys provided a commentary on the community and showed them diving into swimming holes, collecting bush medicine, hanging out at the local store, attending school and chasing bullocks.
The group nominated Ngalangangdum School, who will put the donation towards a special education trip to Sydney for the young people.
$3,000 donation

Jessica Dayment, 15, and group
Mount Beauty, Vic
Mount Beauty Secondary College

Jessica submitted a creative painting showing the importance of water in the community of Mount Beauty. The community is shown as a strong and colourful town where young people are celebrated.
Jessica nominated the Mount Beauty Secondary College to use the donation to install water saving devices and a water tank for the school.
$2,000 donation

Farid Shahbazi, 13, and group
Wentworthville, NSW
Ngalangangdum School

Farid submitted a creative rap song, written and recorded with two friends Emmanuel and Hussein. The lyrics detail each boy’s immigration experience from Africa, Persia and Iraq to Wentworthville. The song celebrates life in ‘Wenty’ and repeats that, ‘A place with lots of opportunity / Is what makes a perfect community’. 
The group nominated the Wentworthville Youth Centre, who will use the donation to purchase boxing equipment and hold a series of classes for young people, and will go towards supporting their upcoming team building camp.
$2,000 donation

Franciska Sita, 13, and Daniel Weier, 15
Kalbarri, WA
The Local Drug Action Group

Franciska and Daniel submitted a creative PowerPoint slideshow celebrating the township of Kalbarri and Kalbarri District High School.  The slideshow highlighted the community and the student committees implementing their recycling program.
Franciska and Daniel nominated the Kalbarri Local Drug Action Group, who will use the donation towards the building of a BMX track for the community

Amelia Kennan & Emily Busuttil, both 15
Mentone, Vic
Kilbreda College

Amelia and Emily submitted a creative booklet of photographic images that bridge young people and the wider community.
Amelia and Emily nominated their school, Kilbreda College.

Tommy Sailor & Brendan Streets, both 13
Burleigh Heads, QLD
Gold Coast Drug Council

Tommy and Brendan submitted a creative collage celebrating the Gold Coast community and the Drastic Youth Arts Program, an arts based mentor program for young disadvantaged people.
The boys nominated the Gold Coast Drug Council, who will use the donation to purchase materials to support their screen-printing, welding and fishing programs.

Round 1 - June

Ben Liebig, 12, and group
District Council of Loxton
Sk8 & BMX Park Light Project
Ben Liebig and young BMX riders from the District Council of Loxton submitted a creative DVD of young people celebrating their community through their skate park, which the young people fundraised to build. The DVD showed a group of young people using the park and how it gave young people in their community a space to get together and enjoy themselves.
Ben nominated the District Council of Loxton, Waikerie to be awarded the donation, which will support the installation of lighting so that the park can be used at night.
$3,000 donation

Josh Stenhouse, 12
Bridge Builders
Sk8 it, Blade it, Ride it
Josh and young members of Bridge Builders team submitted a creative DVD celebrating each community they travel to with their mobile skate park.  The team travel around Australia with their mobile skate park teaching skating, roller blading and riding skills. The “Sk8 it, Blade it, Ride it” provides young people with an outlet to explore their talents and give them the opportunity to excel and build resilience within themselves in their communities
Josh nominated Bridge Builders to be awarded the donation to purchase and repair more skating facilities.
$2,000 donation

Natalie Seretis, 14, and group
Merrimac State High School
Aquaponic
Natalie Seretis and a group of young people submitted a creative powerpoint slide show celebrating the local young peoples’ community gardens. The slide show showed how important school gardens are to them and outlined the challenges facing gardening students at Merrimac State High School due to the current drought.
Natalie nominated Merrimac State High School to be awarded the donation, which will go towards purchasing an Aquaponic water recycling system so young people can continue to care for their garden.
$2,000 donation

James Roper, 12, and group
The Australian Boys Choral Institute
Our Choir Community
James Roper and a group of young people submitted a creative DVD celebrating the achievements and hard work of the Australian Boys Choral Institute.  The DVD showed the choir in practice and young people joining together to sing.
James nominated the Australian Boys Choral Institute to be awarded the donation to purchase recording equipment which will be of benefit to the boys at all levels.  
$1,000 donation

Keira-Lee Carmichael, 14, and group
Kingfisher Vaulters
Equestrian Vaulting “We Are Growing”

Keira-Lee Carmichael and a group of young people submitted a creative DVD celebrating their local equestrian club.  The DVD showed young peoples’ commitment to their sport, and the work undertaken to achieve their goals. The young people celebrated their individual and group achievements and support each other in training for the future.
Keira-Lee nominated The Kingfisher Vaulters equestrian club to be awarded the donation to purchase equestrian equipment. 
$1,000 donation

Reece Potter, 15, and group
Yarloop Community Learning and Drop in Centre
Yarloop: A Great Place to Live
Reece Potter and young people from Yarloop submitted a creative DVD celebrating the positive places and history of their town. The Yarloop Community Learning and Drop in Centre was highlighted as a fun and positive place for young people to hang out.
Reece nominated Yarloop Community Learning and Drop in Centre to be awarded the donation to purchase sporting equipment.
