On Track Project 2007

 

Ten organisations began working with The Foundation in 2003 when they were selected to be involved with the On Track Leadership Project.   The On Track Project is a joint initiative of the Department of Family and Community Services and The Foundation for Young Australians. 
 

The Foundation recently offered additional funding to organisations involved with On Track to develop a new project and enhance the experiences, youth-led involvement and leadership skills of young people involved with the organisation.
 

Broken Hill City Council
Will run a two day leadership camp for young people in the community to develop of a small youth-led community project.

Chisholm Institute
Will support a group of young people in developing sexual health resources.  The group will assess current information available and customise the information to create a resource that has relevance and interest to young people.

City of Mount Gambier
Will run a camp called Youth=Change 2008, exploring young peoples’ vision for Mount Gambier in 2020.   As a result of this camp, a documentary DVD will be developed with an attempt to capture the vision.

Darebin Council
Will support and develop a human rights youth summit.  Young people of the Darebin Council On Track team will work in partnership with 12 secondary schools within the Darebin to plan and execute a summit that tackles issues of racism and multi-culturism.

Glenorchy City Council
Will develop a leadership training program and manual in order to provide young people with the necessary skills and support to develop youth led projects.

Newcastle City Council

Will select eight young Indigenous people to undertake Aboriginal Cultural Awareness training through a TAFE Outreach Certificate.  The eight students will then use the awareness education to run Indigenous cultural camps for other young Indigenous people in the Newcastle area, further developing their leadership skills.

Townsville City Council
Will run a skills leadership camp for young people who are actively involved in Townsville Youth Development initiatives.  The Young people will develop and run the camps.

Victorian Arabic Social Services (VASS)
Will deliver a Youth Leadership Project aimed at connecting young Arabic people with Victorian Emergency Services.

YMCA Youth and Community Services Inc
Will run a series of workshops that focus on developing leadership and life skills of young people in the City of Gosnells.  Weekly workshops will be conducted by Diploma youth work students and local professionals covering fields of art, sports, natural therapies, nutrition, music and dance.

Youth Solutions

Youth Solutions will use this funding to provide a two-day youth leadership training opportunity to 40 selected young people 14-18 years, living or studying in the Macarthur and Southern Highland regions of NSW.
