One-off funding grants
Up to $5,000
A 'Low Engagement' partnership with The Foundation involves a one-off funding grant for a specific community project. Funding is usually between $1,000 and $5,000.
Works closely with The Foundation
A 'High Engagement' partnership with The Foundation involves funding over a number of years and non-financial support for the grant partner as they develop and implement their community project. Funding may be up to $200,000 over three years.
High Engagement partnerships are undertaken in two stages.
Stage 1 – After being selected, young people develop a plan for a project that they want to undertake. This is undertaken via a 'community mapping' process where young people identify and prioritise their community's needs.
Stage 2 – Involves funding, resources and support to implement the project over a number of years.
FYA commits at least 20 per cent of total grant funding to projects specifically designed to benefit young Indigenous Australians.
FYA has identified key outcomes that it would like to see occur with young Indigenous people as a result of its investment decisions;
- Changing opportunities for young Indigenous people
Responding to the needs identified by young Indigenous people
Supporting the development of youth infrastructure in Indigenous communities
Positive long-term outcomes for young Indigenous people
Supporting community-motivated positive development, or
Improving relations between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
Continuous improvement is a high priority for The Foundation for Young Australians. We use external evaluators and action research methodologies, particularly in respect to high engagement projects. Our approach to evaluation is based on capturing the learnings for the benefit of the organisations we fund, for FYA and for the wider youth and community sectors through the publication of evaluation reports.
Evaluation reports of our funded programs are available in the Media and Publications section of this website.
