Committees

Selection Committees:

Selection Committees assist FYA by making decisions in relation to the grants that FYA makes and they also support the work of FYA’s staff in the development and review of project work.

The key responsibilities of each Selection Committees will vary according to the focus of each Selection Committee. However, the following are indicative responsibilities of Selection Committees:

  • Assess and approve grant applications

  • Monitor the progress of Grant Partners

    •
  • Assist FYA staff in developing risk assessment strategies for initiatives

    •
  • Participate in activities (eg communications) as agreed

    •
  • Consideration of how the Selection Committee’s grants are a component of the implementation of FYA’s overall strategic investments

Attributes and Experience
  • A passion for supporting young people

  • A passion and understanding of youth participation in decision making

    •
  • An up-to-date understanding of the issues facing young Indigenous people and their communities in Australia

    •
  • Significant personal or professional involvement with youth/community/Indigenous organisations

    •
  • Knowledge of youth initiatives

    •
  • Skills in project planning and assessment

    •
  • An ability to identify and select appropriate initiatives for FYA to support

    •
  • An ability to effectively evaluate funding proposals and judge the potential of organisations and individuals to achieve their proposed outcomes, and

    •
  • A genuine intention and ability to work collaboratively with others.

Support Committees:

FYA is assisted by volunteers sitting on FYA’s Support Committees. These support committees provide essential advice and guidance on FYA's activities.

  Appointments & Nomination Committee

The Appointments & Nomination Committee is principally involved in the recruitment, development and evaluation of people at the Board, Committees and CEO level within FYA. It is responsible for building the framework for these positions by refining descriptions of responsibilities as required, and developing competency-based criteria for the membership of those positions. It plays a key role in recruiting by anticipating vacancies and proposing suitable candidates for appointment by the Board.

The Audit Committee assists the Board to meet its legal responsibilities to exercise due care, diligence and skill in relation to the company’s internal controls, protection of assets, risk management, business practices, compliance, financial reporting and the application of its accounting policies.

  Investment Committee

The Investment Committee monitors FYA’s financial performance; evaluates FYA’s financial and investment performance; and helps define the annual budget and investment strategy in conjunction with the CEO and Finance Director.
